Nikola recalls delivered trucks for fire risk
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak inside the battery pack causing fires. Sales are also being suspended. The company is in the process of contacting affected parties. The investigation found no evidence of foul play or external factors.
Nikola Corp. announced on Friday that it will be recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales. This decision comes after an investigation into recent fires revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause.
According to a spokesperson for Nikola, there are currently 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. The company is in the process of recalling these vehicles and is reaching out to all parties involved.
The preliminary findings of the investigation were supported by a "minor thermal incident" that occurred on one pack of a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to have caused the incident. The company is now working on finding a solution to the issue.
In June, when trucks at Nikola's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona caught fire, the company initially suspected foul play. This led them to launch an investigation. Last month, a damaged truck at the Phoenix site reignited, further prompting the need for action.
