Nikola recalls delivered trucks for fire risk

Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales after discovering a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause of recent fires. The company is in the process of contacting all parties involved, including dealers and customers, as there are a total of 209 trucks in the marketplace. A spokesperson for Nikola confirmed this information to Reuters.

The investigation into the fires was conducted by a third-party investigator, whose preliminary findings were corroborated by a minor thermal incident on one of the engineering-validation trucks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to be the cause of the incident and that efforts are being made to find a solution.

The investigation was initially launched in June after trucks at the company's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona caught fire. One of the damaged trucks, which was being monitored at the Phoenix site, re-ignited last month. These incidents prompted Nikola to take immediate action and recall all the affected trucks.
