Nikola's Recall of Delivered Trucks for Fire Risk
【Summary】Nikola is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak causing fires. Sales are suspended as the company contacts affected parties. The investigation found no foul play and efforts are being made to provide a remedy.
Nikola Corp. announced on Friday that it will be recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales. This decision comes after an investigation into recent fires revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause.
According to a spokesperson for Nikola, there are currently 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. The company is in the process of recalling these vehicles and is actively reaching out to all parties involved.
The preliminary findings of the investigation were supported by a "minor thermal incident" that occurred on one of the packs in a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to have caused the incident. The company is now working on finding a solution to address the issue.
The investigation was initially launched in June after trucks at the company's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, caught fire. Last month, one of the damaged trucks, which was being kept at the Phoenix site for monitoring, re-ignited.
