Spain triumphs over England in FIFA Women's World Cup final

Spain has emerged as the fifth winner in nine editions of the Women's World Cup, solidifying their place alongside Germany as the only two nations to have won both the men's and women's tournaments.

In the 29th minute of the game, Carmona unleashed a powerful left-foot shot that found its way into the far corner of the net, just out of reach of England goalkeeper Mary Earps, who had dived in an attempt to save it.

In a moment of celebration, Carmona lifted her jersey to reveal the word "Merchi" scrawled in ink on her undershirt, which seemed to be a tribute to her former school.

This was not the first time Carmona made a significant impact in the tournament. In the semifinal victory over Sweden, she scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, becoming the first player since Carli Lloyd in 2015 to score in both a World Cup semifinal and final.

Spain had an opportunity to extend their lead in the 68th minute when Jenni Hermoso took a penalty shot. However, Earps, who anticipated the direction perfectly, made an excellent save by diving to her left.

Spain's victory is remarkable considering the near-mutiny by players that occurred last year. Fifteen players expressed their intention to step away from the national team due to mental health concerns and called for a more professional environment.

However, three of those players, namely Ona Batlle, Aitana Bonmati, and Mariona Caldentey, reconciled with the federation and were present at the Women's World Cup.
