Toyota has introduced the new Hilux GR Sport II, a performance pick-up truck that aims to capture the attention of enthusiasts. Despite being a relatively unfamiliar concept, performance trucks have gained a significant following, and Toyota doesn't want to miss out on the fun.
While the Gazoo Racing brand is often associated with models like the GR86, GR Yaris, and Toyota Supra, the Hilux pick-up truck has proven itself worthy of a GR-developed variant. Its recent success in the Dakar Rally has showcased its performance capabilities.
The first version of the Hilux GR Sport was released in 2022, and now Toyota has given it a complete revamp both inside and out. The new GR Sport II is set to hit the market in early 2024.
The GR Sport II is exclusively available in the double-cab bodystyle. It features lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels, a black front grille with a unique mesh insert, and additional black detailing on the side steps, mirrors, and door handles. The front bumper has also been reshaped to enhance its sporty appearance. To add a touch of nostalgia, a retro 'Toyota' script is displayed across the grille, accompanied by GR Sport badges and a silver underguard.
Inside the cabin, the GR Sport II offers a more subdued color scheme compared to its predecessor. The red trim piece that used to stretch across the dashboard has been removed, and the red stitching on the seats, armrests, and handbrake has been replaced with silver. However, the GR Sport II still retains red seat belts, GR-branded seats, and aluminum pedals to maintain its sporty character.
