2024 Corvette E-Ray's Unexpected Achievement

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray has achieved an unexpected but impressive record. By introducing a hybrid drivetrain and all-wheel drive to the mid-engine C8 Corvette, the E-Ray has become the quickest Corvette ever. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.

However, Chevy's marketing strategy for the E-Ray goes beyond its speed. They also emphasize the all-weather capabilities that the all-wheel drive layout provides. This feature aims to attract a wider customer base to the brand and model.

The focus on all-weather performance has led to another surprising record for the E-Ray. It comes equipped with the widest all-season tires ever seen on a production vehicle. These tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4+ ZP, measure a whopping 345 millimeters wide at the rear and 275 millimeters wide at the front.

These all-season tires have a unique tread design with four distinct compounds that enable them to handle low temperatures, rain, and snow. Michelin collaborated with Chevrolet to develop these tires to ensure that they maintain the same top speed rating as other high-performance options, such as the Pilot Sport 4S and the Cup 2s found on the Z06 or Z07-equipped track models.

During a recent E-Ray launch program in Colorado, where the exceptional grip of the E-Ray was demonstrated during a test drive, I had the opportunity to speak with Wayne Yount, Michelin's Product Category Manager for OE. We discussed the collaboration between Michelin and GM in developing the record-setting all-season tires for the E-Ray.
