Land Rover updates its compact Range Rover model, the stylish Evoque
【Summary】Land Rover has made small updates to its Range Rover Evoque, including a new front grille design, revised headlights, and new paint schemes. The interior now features a minimalistic cabin with an 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen and no buttons or knobs. The new Evoque retains its stylish design and offers a decent amount of luxury. However, it is restricted to one engine/transmission combination and has a large turning circle.
The luxury crossover segment has been highly competitive in recent years, with car manufacturers recognizing the potential for profit. The first-generation Range Rover Evoque, launched in 2011, made a significant impact, winning several awards and receiving praise from Top Gear presenters. The global media launch for the Evoque was a memorable event, with vehicles being floated into Vancouver Harbour and driven onto dry land. Following the launch, the Evoque showcased its off-road capabilities by tackling service roads on Whistler Mountain.
Fast forward to the present, and the third-generation Range Rover Evoque has made its debut in Paris. While the Evoque is capable of handling rough terrain, it is more at home in a stylish urban setting. The design of the first-generation Evoque still holds up well, and the latest model retains its sleek and stylish silhouette. Changes to the exterior include a new front grille design, revised headlights, and new paint schemes. Inside, the most notable difference is the new 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen, which controls all infotainment and climate control functions.
The introduction of the touchscreen has resulted in a more minimalist cabin, with switches, buttons, and knobs being replaced. While this switch has been controversial, the interface becomes easier to navigate with time. The Evoque also features a range of new colors, materials, and a panoramic roof, giving the interior a high-end look and feel. In terms of powertrain options, the North American version of the Evoque is limited to a turbocharged two-liter, four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed transmission.
During a test drive from Paris to the champagne region, the Evoque proved to be responsive and comfortable on twisty roads. While it may not offer the same level of performance as some competitors, its cachet and stylish design make it an attractive option for many car shoppers. Overall, the 2024 Range Rover Evoque is a desirable luxury crossover with a range of features and capabilities.
